The data refer to the number of museums and since 2018 the definition is in full accordance with the Cultural Heritage Act (Prom. in the SG 19 / 13 March 2009). In the data are included indicators for the organized events, stocks units (movable cultural values), visits and of which: in the day for free entrance and visits of foreigners, staff, incomes from European projects and programmes and expenditures, as well as data for the material basis of museums, number of museums which use a computer and number of museums with at least one specialized educational programme.

· By form of ownership of the museum;

· According to the scientific and cultural fields of the museum;

· Staff category of the museum;

· Nomenclature of territorial units for statistical purposes in Bulgaria (NUTS).

Museum is a cultural and science organisation which seeks out, studies, preserves and presents cultural values, natural specimens and anthropological remains with cognitive, educational and aesthetic purposes.

Units of observation are museums, whose stocks units are movable cultural values.

The target population is all open for visit museums whose stocks units are movable cultural values.
