Data refers to the number of libraries, library collection, readers, visitors, library collection loaned, employment and library staff. The survey includes indicators for the number of books, continued editions (newspapers, magazines, bulletins and periodicals) and other documents (audio-visual and electronic documents, graphic and cartographic publications, patents and standards, microforms). The data indicate the total revenue, subsidies from the budget and the expenditure of libraries.

The library is an independent organization or part of organization whose main objective is to keep a fund of documents and through the activities of its staff to facilitate the use of documents that are necessary to meet the informational, research, educational and recreational needs of their users.

As of 2024, the units of observation include all regional libraries and libraries with a library collection above 200,000 library documents.

The target population is all regional libraries and libraries with a library collection above 200 thousand library documents.
