10 November - International Accountants' Day

At the suggestion of UNESCO, November 10 is designated International Accountants' Day.

The ‘father of accounting’ is considered to be Luca Pacioli, who on November 10, 1494, published his work "Summa de Arithmetica". In Bulgaria, accounting began to develop in the 19th century. The authors of the first accounting book were the brothers Hristo and Stoyan Karaminkovi. It was published in 1850 in Constantinople.

As a result of the press conference held a few days ago by Labour Union ‘Podkrepa’, which highlighted the inadequate remuneration of employees in the National Statistical Institute, the President of the NSI Assoc. Prof. Atanas Atanasov, PhD, met with Kremena Atanasova, President of the Syndicate of Administrative Employees ‘Podkrepa’, and Vanya Grigorova, Economic Advisor to the President of Labour Union ‘Podkrepa’.

The meeting again discussed the low salaries in the NSI system and the need to increase the expenditure for maintenance, which has not been done for years.

Statistics Essay Contest Winners

On the occasion of the Day of European Statistics, October 20, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) announced a competition for a statistical essay for students on the topic: 'The importance of official statistics in the modern world of information and disinformation'. 82 students from 44 schools in 28 towns participated. With desire and a lot of work, they wrote their texts and became part of European citizens who appreciate and trust the statistical information of NSI and Eurostat. It was a pleasure for the jury members to read their works and responsibly select the best of them.

On 20 and 21 October 2022, the European Statistical Advisory Committee will hold a conference in Rome on the subject ‘The European Data Ecosystem for Statistical Information in the Digital Age’.

On European Statistics Day, Eurostat will hold a webinar featuring an overview of official statistics, followed by presentations on statistical literacy and the new Euro-indicators package.

The National Statistical Institute announced the final results how many people live in Bulgaria. The results of Census 2021 are released a year after the end of field work and will be announced in stages.

The population of our country is 6 519 789 people as the women are more and there are 927 men per 1000 women. For 10 years we have decreased by almost 845 000 people.
