1. Total Producer Price Indices in Industry
The Total Producer Price Index in Industry fell by 0.2% in August 2025 compared to the previous month. A decrease of 10.6% was registered in the mining and quarrying industry, the manufacturing industry does not change its level from July 2025, and in the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply prices rose by 0.4%.
Lower prices in the manufacturing industry were registered in the manufacture of textiles, and in the manufacture of paper and paper products - both by 0.2%. An increase was seen in the manufacture of chemicals and chemical products - by 1.3%, in the manufacture of leather and related products - by 1.2%, in the manufacture of basic metals - by 1.0%.
The Total Producer Price Index went up by 7.9% in August 2025 compared to the same month in 2024. A rise was observed in the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply - by 14.2%, in the mining and quarrying industry - by 13.8%, as well as in the manufacturing industry - by 9.7%.
In the manufacturing, the prices rose in the manufacture of basic metals - by 22.3%, in the manufacture of food products - by 19.9%, and in the manufacture of chemicals and chemical products - by 14.5%. Price reduction was registered in the manufacture of tobacco products - by 16.6%, and in the manufacture of furniture - by 13.1%.
2. Producer Price Indices on the Domestic Market
The Producer Price Index on the Domestic Market decreased by 0.5% in August 2025 compared to July 2025. The domestic prices went down in the mining and quarrying industry - by 5.1%, and in the manufacturing industry - by 0.5%. In the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply remained its level from July 2025.
In the manufacturing, compared to the previous month, lower prices were registered in the manufacture of wood and of products of wood and cork, except furniture; manufacture of articles of straw and plaiting materials - by 0.6%, in the manufacture of rubber and plastic products, and in the manufacture of basic metals - both by 0.4%. The prices went up in the manufacture of leather and related products - by 3.1%, in the manufacture of chemicals and chemical products - by 0.7%, in the manufacture of basic pharmaceutical products and pharmaceutical preparations - by 0.6%.
The Producer Price Index on the Domestic Market increased by 9.1% compared to August 2024. The prices rose in the electricity, gas, steam and air conditioning supply - by 23.5%, in the mining and quarrying industry - by 10.4%, and in the manufacturing industry - by 8.8%.
In August 2025, higher prices in the manufacturing in comparison with August 2024 were seen in the manufacture of food products - by 23.3%, in the manufacture of beverages - by 18.1%, in the manufacture of chemicals and chemical products - by 16.9%, and in the manufacture of basic metals - by 15.9%. Lower prices were reported in the manufacture of leather and related products - by 9.6%, in the manufacture of tobacco products - by 9.0%, and in the manufacture of motor vehicles, trailers and semi-trailers - by 8.7%.
3. Producer Price Indices on the Non-domestic Market
The Producer Price Index on the Non-domestic Market rose by 0.2% in August 2025 compared to the previous month and by 6.3% in comparison with August 2024.
Methodological notes
Producer Price Indices measure the average change in the prices of industrial products, which are produced and sold by Bulgarian enterprises. They can be considered an early measure of the current inflation process in the economy and they can be used for international comparisons. Information for the calculation of Producer Price Indices is received on the basis of monthly surveys on producer prices of industrial products sold on the domestic market and on industrial products sold on the non-domestic market. Producer price surveys are based on a constant sample of groups of products, and that sample is representative of the total industrial production.
Total Producer Price Indices are calculated from Producer Price Indices on the Domestic Market and Producer Price Indices on the Non-domestic Market, weighted with the turnover structure on the domestic and the non-domestic market to the total value of turnover in the base year (2021).
