The President of BNSI Assoc. Prof. Mariana Kotzeva took part in a seminar entitled “The European Statistics Code of Practice and the Enhancement of Credibility of Official Statistics”, held on 27 June 2011 in Athens, Greece.

The 2010 main results of price surveys covering about 2500 consumer goods and services across 37 European countries are presented. These surveys are part of the Eurostat-OECD Purchasing Power Parities program, where NSI of Bulgaria participates since 1993.

On June 25, 2011 Bulgarian statistics celebrates 131 years since its establishment. The beginning of statistics started in 1880 when a statistical department of the Ministry of Finance was established.

A delegation from NSI will take part in the celebrations dedicated to 200 years of the Federal State Statistical Service of Russia.

Over 500 guests, including heads of statistical institutions and international statistical organizations аre expected to attend the event.

78th edition of the Statistical Yearbook of the Republic of Bulgaria and Statistical Reference Book 2011 wеre published in paperback and electronic format.

Publications contain statistical information on demographic, economic and social development in different territorial and classification sections and aggregations.

The President of NSI Dr. Mariana Kotseva will participate in two important events for the European statistics: the 59^th plenary session of the Conference of European Statisticians (CES) and the Annual Meeting of the Statistics Committee of the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD). The meetings will be held between 14^th and 17^th June 2011 in Geneva, Switzerland.

The President of BNSI Dr. Mariana Kotzeva will participate in the traditional high-level meeting organized by the statistical office of the country holding the EU presidency. The theme is "Communicating Statistical Information - a tool for improving statistical Culture”. The forum will be held on 9 and 10 June, 2011 in Visegrad, Hungary.

From 6 to 10 June 2011 Bulgaria hosted the meeting of the Steering Committee for the management of the Twinning project AZ08/ENP-PCA/FI/06 "Support to the State Statistics Committee (SSC) of Azerbaijan to reach European standards in national accounts, non-observed economy, business statistics and the producer prices index.

In response to the growing interest in the information on services sector and the importance of this sector for the economy National Institute of Statistics offer to the attention of users a new section "Services Producer Price Indices”.

Data is available in Sections “Services” and “Short-term business statistics”. There can be found latest data for Services Producer Price Indices for the first quarter of 2011, time series with quarterly data since 2006 and metadata and methodological notes.

The fifth meeting of the Group “Sponsorship on Communication” was held on 12 May 2011 at Arena di Serdica Residence Hotel in Sofia.

The meeting was opened by Mr. Jaume Garcia Villar, Chair of the Sponsorship Group on Communication and President of the National Statistics Institute of Spain.
