The President of the NSI presented a report at the Fifth Regional Conference of the International Statistical Institute

The President of the National Statistical Institute (NSI), Assoc. Prof. Atanas Atanasov, PhD presented a report during one of the opening sessions of the Fifth Regional Conference of the International Statistical Institute (ISI), which was organized in Europe for the first time. The event took place from 3 to 5 June 2026 at the University of Malta in the capital city of Valletta.

In his presentation, entitled “The Bulgarian approach to communicating official statistics to different user groups,” Assoc. Prof. Atanasov shared the experience of Bulgarian official statistics in communicating with various users of official statistical information, including politicians, public administration, businesses, academia and researchers, the media, students, and the general public. The report focused on the specific approaches developed by the NSI for each user group, as well as the customized communication channels and tools designed to meet their particular needs. Attention was also drawn to the modern digital tools used by the NSI, including the institution’s new website, open data formats, and interactive visualizations, complemented by press releases, publications, detailed methodological documentation, and engagement through social media.

The Fifth Regional Statistical Conference offered a wide range of topics in the field of statistics, attracting interest from representatives of academia, business, industry, policymaking, and producers of official statistics. Discussions also focused on the application of statistics in business and industry, environmental statistics, mathematical statistics, statistical literacy, statistical computing, and data visualization.

The NSI is an institutional member of the International Statistical Institute, which was established in 1885 as a non-profit, non-governmental organization with both individual and institutional members from more than 150 countries. Its primary role is to promote the understanding, development, and good practice of statistics worldwide, both by providing an environment for the advancement of statistical knowledge and by creating opportunities for collaboration.
