From 3 to 6 June 2026, the XII European Conference on Quality in Official Statistics was held in Šibenik, Croatia, jointly organized by the Croatian Bureau of Statistics and Eurostat. In her presentation, Ms. Ilkova outlined the main objectives of the NSI’s communication strategy, including improving public understanding of statistical concepts and quality principles, promoting transparency regarding statistical processes and methodologies, supporting equal access to official statistical data, and encouraging active dialogue with users. Through targeted communication tools, educational initiatives, and user-oriented, proactive dissemination practices, the strategy aims to strengthen trust in official statistics and reinforce the NSI’s role as a reliable provider of high-quality and impartial statistical information. Ms. Ilkova placed particular emphasis on aligning national communication efforts with the European Statistics Code of Practice, especially with regard to professional independence, impartiality, reliability, accessibility, and clarity. She also discussed the role of statistical literacy initiatives in bridging the gap between data producers and data users.
The conference aims to facilitate the exchange of experience and the sharing of best practices related to quality in official statistics among various stakeholders, including producers of official statistics, data users, and the academic community. This year’s edition focused on the role of institutional frameworks supporting quality management in official statistics, as well as the challenges and opportunities associated with maintaining the quality of official statistics amid the growing use of artificial intelligence.
