NSI Delegation will participate in the 43rd session of UN Statistical Commission

A delegation led by NSI President Assoc. Prof. Mariana Kotzeva will participate in the forty-third regular session of the United Nations Statistical Commission from February 28 to March 2, 2012 in New York. The Statistical Commission is a supreme entity within the International Statistical System, which is responsible for discussion and approval of the international statistical standards. The main topics to be discussed during the forty-third session are Program review on Population and Housing censuses, Statistics on human development, the status of the revision of the System Environmental-Economic Accounts (SEEA) and the Framework for the Development of Environment Statistics. There will be discussions on issues related to coordination of official statistics in the UN. The recommendations of Friends of the Chair Group on issues of statistical indicators for measuring violence against women, in whose work the President of NSI was actively involved, will be presented.
The Statistical Division and the UN Statistical Commission organize a number of special events on topics related to their activities. On 24 February, a seminar entitled "Counting the 7 Billion: The Future of Population and Housing Censuses". On 27 February a high-level forum on "Measuring the Unmeasurable: Challenging the Limits of Official Statistics" will be held.
It is envisaged that the Bulgarian delegation shall take part both in the work of the Statistical Commission and the special events that provide opportunity for lively discussions and exchange of views between statisticians from all over the world.
The Bulgarian delegation is expected to hold a number of bilateral and multilateral meetings with heads of statistical offices - including a meeting of Heads of Statistical Offices of EU Member States, a meeting with representatives of the European Neighbourhood Policy and others.
