97th Conference of the Directors-General of the National Statistical Institutes (DGINS) and 10th Meeting of the European Statistical System Committee (ESSC)

The President of the National Statistical Institute (NSI) Assoc. Prof. Mariana Kotzeva and the Director of the European, International Cooperation and Coordination Directorate Mrs. Eleonora Avramova will participate in the 97th Conference of the Directors-General of the National Statistical Institutes (DGINS) to be held in Wiesbaden, Germany, on 26 and 27 September 2011.
Focus of the conference will be the proposed revisions of the European Statistics Code of Practice. The conference will also review the future needs of social statistics in the context of Europe 2020 Strategy and will discuss the draft strategy for the modernization of social statistics and ways for developing the future statistical system on European household and social statistics.
The President of NSI Assoc. Prof. Mariana Kotzeva will present a paper entitled “Towards needs driven, user oriented, quality certified and cost-effective social statistics – the Bulgarian approach”.
On 28 September 2011 the 10th Meeting of the European Statistical System Committee (ESSC) will take place and its items for discussion are related to Draft Commission Regulations concerning Community statistics on income and living conditions (SILC), tourism statistics, as well as the Annual Work Programme 2012 for the Modernization of European Enterprise and Trade Statistics (MEETS).
Further discussions will be devoted to the progress made regarding the Economic Governance Package.
Hosting the annual DGINS Conference is carried out on a rotation basis. The previous 96th DGINS Conference took place in Sofia, end of September 2010, and covered the topic “Measuring Progress, Well-being and Sustainable Development”.
