The NSI and the World Bank presented key results of the Poverty Maps in the Republic of Bulgaria Project

On December 18, a presentation of the main results of the "Poverty Maps in the Republic of Bulgaria" Project was presented at the Office of the World Bank Representation in Bulgaria. The project is part of the program of the Government and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development (IBRD). The project was launched in 2016 and was co-implemented by experts from the National Statistical Institute and the World Bank.

The meeting was attended by President of the NSI Sergey Tsvetarsky and the head of the World Bank Office in Bulgaria, Tony Thompson, as well as experts from the NSI, the World Bank and representatives of various involved institutions.

At the opening of the meeting, Mr. Thompson stressed upon the longstanding and fruitful cooperation between the two organizations, both in the provision of data as well as in the exchange of methodology, knowledge and good practices.

The NSI President also expressed his satisfaction with the cooperation between the two institutions and stressed upon its role in improving the quality and reliability of the statistical data. Both parties also highlighted the importance of quality and accessible information for making good policy decisions.

Magdalena Kostova, Director of Demographic and Demographic and Social Statistics Directorate, and Rasim Rustem, Chief Expert in the Statistics on Living Conditions Department delivered the presentations on the Bulgarian side, and from the World Bank presentation was made by the Project Director Joao Pedro Azavedo.

The results of the survey will be presented in a publication in Bulgarian and English, as well as in electronic form on the NSI’s website in the first months of 2018.
