Bulgaria takes over the Presidency of the Council Working Party on Statistics

On 14 December 2017 in Tartu, Estonia, a delegation of the National Statistical Institute headed by the NSI President Sergey Tsvetarsky will participate in a meeting at which the current Chair of the Council Working Party on Statistics and Deputy Director General of Statistics Estonia Ms. Tuulikki Sillajõe will hand over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the field of statistics. The meeting will also be attended by representatives of Statistics Austria, who are partners in the trio presidencies of the Council of the EU Estonia - Bulgaria - Austria. The European Commission (Eurostat) will be represented by Eurostat Acting Director General Mariana Kotzeva.

At the meeting the parties will review the current state of play of the open legislative files, which will be discussed within the Council Working Party on Statistics during the Bulgarian Presidency, and the Estonian Presidency will inform the other participants about the progress achieved during the last six months.

The National Statistical Institute will chair the meetings of the Council Working Party on Statistics during the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council in the first half of 2018. At present, Estonia is in charge of the rotating Presidency from July to December 2017, while Austria will take over from Bulgaria in the second half of 2018.
