Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the European Union in the field of statistics

The Deputy President of the National Statistical Institute and Co-chair designate of the Council Working Party on Statistics Diana Yancheva will represent Bulgaria at the handover meeting on statistics from the current Trio Netherlands - Slovakia - Malta to the upcoming Presidency Trio Estonia - Bulgaria - Austria. The presidency handover ceremony, at which representatives of the European Commission (Eurostat) will also be present, will take place on 27th June in Malta.

During the meeting each statistical institute from the previous Trio will report on and share experience from the period of its rotating presidency of the Council Working Party on Statistics. The specific feature of this preparatory body is that it is chaired by the head of the National Statistical Institute of the Member State that holds the rotating presidency of the Council.

The representatives of the National Statistical Institutes of the three Member States which will chair the Working Party from 1st July 2017 to 31st December 2018 will present the joint Trio programme, as well as the organisation of the work on the preparation of the rotating presidencies at national level. Eurostat will also make a presentation in its capacity as initiator of legislative proposals.

Under consideration will be the state of play and the handover of the open legislative files, on which discussions will continue from 1st July 2017, the organisation of work, and collaboration between the countries of the upcoming Trio Presidencies of the Council of EU.

Yordanka Anastassova, Head of the International Cooperation Department and Coordinator of the Bulgarian Presidency on statistics, will also take part in the meeting.
