The absolute number and the relative share of women with two children are the highest - 1 353 thousand (44.6%). 204 000 or 6.7% of women have three children each, and this share is twice as high in rural as in urban areas - 11.3 and 5.1%, respectively. 78 000 or 2.6% of women have four or more children. A little more than a fifth of women - 650 thousand (21.4%) do not have children at the critical moment of the census. The average number of live births per woman aged 12 and over is 1.47. This indicator is higher in rural (1.75) than in urban areas (1.37).

Business Demography for 2020

Business demography statistics present data on the active population of enterprises, enterprise births, enterprise survivals (followed up to five years after birth), enterprise deaths, and high-growth enterprises. The term business demography is used to cover a set of variables which explain the characteristics and demography of the business population. For each business demographic event, NACE Rev.2 activity, employment and legal form are available.

Population and Demographic Processes in 2021

According to Demography statistics data population of the country as of the end of the 2021 the population is 6 838 937 persons. Compared to the previous year it has decreased by 77 611 persons or by 1.1%. There are 58 678 live born children in 2021. The number of live births decreases by 408 compared to the previous year. The number of deaths in 2021 is 148 995 and the crude mortality rate - 21.7‰. Compared to the previous year the number of deaths increases by 24 260.

... ia On September 6, 1880, the Fifth Department of the Ministry of Finance submitted a report to its Minister demanding the introduction of statistics on population movements in Bulgaria, the clergy were tasked with preserving the ‘metric’ books. In the autumn of the same year, these ordinances were reviewed by the National Assembly and received the status of the Law on the Survey of Births, Marriages and Deaths of December 10, 1880. According to this law, the registers are the following: register of births, register of marriages and register of deaths. The keeping of these registers is entrusted to the spiritual representatives of each parish. Supervision over the proper keeping of the registers is entrusted to the district chief, each superior and state official, especially to the school and financial inspectors. Nearly quarter of country population counted online

The greatest part of counted dwellings is in Sofia (37.8%), Varna (22.0%) and Plovdiv (19.2%). After them is Ruse where 18.3 of the dwellings are counted. Up to now the questionnaire about survey of migration attitudes has been filled in by 1 762 persons throughout the country. 790 persons answered the questionnaire about the reproductive behaviour. The surveys about the births and reproductive attitudes, as well as about the migration and migration behaviour are sample ones and are carried out parallelly with the census. Almost 44 000 randomly selected households throughout the country can fill in one of the two questionnaires.

... cted. In the young Bulgarian state at that time 2 007 919 persons lived while the average number of people per household was 6. In 1887 after the Unification the population of Bulgaria increased up to 3 154 375 persons in 556 400 households. At that time only 10% of the population was literate. The population of Bulgaria has increased by 1985 despite the two world wars and the national catastrophes. In the 1980s, the 9 millionth Bulgarian was never born. In fact, the decrease in births started already in the 1970s due to urbanization of the country and reached its peak at the end of the 1990s. Population decrease after democratic changes was influenced also by the external migration. For 30 years transition the population has decreased with 1 570 769 persons. How many children do we want and what do we need to stay in Bulgaria?

Population and Housing Census has always been a source of unique data which could not be collected otherwise. The same will be by conducting the 18th census in Bulgaria. Along with the traditional data for the number of people, households and dwellings, the life conditions and the mountains of information to be collected and processed, in the Census 2021 Programme there will be conducted as accompanying ones, surveys of the births and the reproduction attitudes, as well as for the migration and the migration behaviour of people in Bulgaria. The surveys are sample ones and almost 44 000 randomly selected households in all the country can fill in one of the two questionnaires. The data to be received from the survey of births will contribute to clarifying the reproduction attitudes, ideals and problems that people have and therefore appropriate demographic and social policies can be developed. Population and Demographic Processes in 2020

As of 31 December 2020 the population of Bulgaria is 6 916 548 persons. Compared to 2019, the population decreases by 34 934 persons. There are 59 086 live born children in 2020. The number of live births decreases by 2 452 compared to the previous year. The number of deaths in 2020 is 124 735 and the crude mortality rate - 18.0‰. Compared to the previous year the number of deaths icreases by 16 652.

Population and Demographic Processes in 2019

As of 31 December 2019 the population of Bulgaria is 6 951 482 persons, representing 1.4% of the EU population. Compared to 2018, the population decreases by 48 557 persons.There are 61 538 live born children in 2019. The number of live births decreases by 659 compared to the previous year.The number of deaths in 2019 is 108 083 and the crude mortality rate - 15.5‰. Compared to the previous year the number of deaths decreases by 443.
