Traditionally, the first section contains data on the geographical position, borders and surface of the Bulgarian Kingdom, rivers, lakes, mountains, distribution by geographical areas, etc. ‘Meteorological data’ refers to atmospheric pressure, temperatures, humidity, precipitation and winds. The annual publications of the Central Meteorological Station in Sofia are used. The demographic statistics section contains data on population movements, marriages, births and deaths. ... ia On September 6, 1880, the Fifth Department of the Ministry of Finance submitted a report to its Minister demanding the introduction of statistics on population movements in Bulgaria, the clergy were tasked with preserving the ‘metric’ books. In the autumn of the same year, these ordinances were reviewed by the National Assembly and received the status of the Law on the Survey of Births, Marriages and Deaths of December 10, 1880. According to this law, the registers are the following: register of births, register of marriages and register of deaths. The keeping of these registers is entrusted to the spiritual representatives of each parish. Supervision over the proper keeping of the registers is entrusted to the district chief, each superior and state official, especially to the school and financial inspectors. Nearly quarter of country population counted online

The greatest part of counted dwellings is in Sofia (37.8%), Varna (22.0%) and Plovdiv (19.2%).  After them is Ruse where 18.3 of the dwellings are counted. Up to now the questionnaire about survey of migration attitudes has been filled in by 1 762 persons throughout the country. 790 persons answered the questionnaire about the reproductive behaviour. The surveys about the births and reproductive attitudes, as well as about the migration and migration behaviour are sample ones and are carried out parallelly with the census. Almost 44 000 randomly selected households throughout the country can fill in one of the two questionnaires.

... cted. In the young Bulgarian state at that time 2 007 919 persons lived while the average number of people per household was 6. In 1887 after the Unification the population of Bulgaria increased up to 3 154 375 persons in 556 400 households. At that time only 10% of the population was literate. The population of Bulgaria has increased by 1985 despite the two world wars and the national catastrophes. In the 1980s, the 9 millionth Bulgarian was never born. In fact, the decrease in births started already in the 1970s due to urbanization of the country and reached its peak at the end of the 1990s. Population decrease after democratic changes was influenced also by the external migration. For 30 years transition the population has decreased with 1 570 769 persons. In 2001 for one more first time we were below 8 million.    In 2011 Bulgaria conducted the first census as an EU Member State. Then was also the first e-census in our country.
