European Statistical Advisory Committee

The European Statistical Advisory Committee was established by Decision No 234/2008/EC of the European Parliament and of the Council of 11 March 2008.
The Committee plays an important role in ensuring that user requirements as well as the response burden on information providers and producers are taken into account in coordinating the strategic objectives and priority of Community’s statistical information policy. The Committee renders assistance to the European Parliament, the Council and the Commission in all fields of statistics concerning the Community’s statistical information policy, including the development of the annual statistical work programme and the Community Statistical Programme 2008 to 2012.
The ESAC has 24 members – 12 members are appointed by the Commission after consulting the European Parliament and the Council and they are independent in carrying out their functions, 11 members are appointed directly by the institutions and bodies they belong to, while the Director General of Eurostat is a member of the Committee by rights, but has no right to vote.
By Commission Decision of 30 March 2009, Ms. Hristina Mitreva (Chairman of the National Statistical Council and at present, Deputy Minister of the Ministry Labour and Social Policy) is appointed as ESAC member.
