The Deputy President of the NSI participated in the 72nd plenary meeting of the Committee on Monetary, Financial and Balance of Payments Statistics

The Deputy President of the National Statistical Institute (NSI), Svilen Kolev, PhD took part in the 72nd plenary meeting of the Committee on Monetary, Financial and Balance of Payments Statistics (CMFB), which was held via videoconference on 29-30 January 2026.

During the two-day meeting, key topics related to the development and implementation of international statistical standards, the coordination of macroeconomic and financial statistics on European level were discussed, as well as present issues in the field of globalization, climate change and environmental statistics, and the use of new methods and data sources, including artificial intelligence.

As part of the programme, Svilen Kolev, PhD delivered two presentations. Together with representatives of the national central banks of Slovenia and the Netherlands, he presented the rules of procedure of the CMFB Task Force on Crypto Assets, as well as the preparations for the 2026 CMFB workshop on the application of innovative methods and technologies in the production of official statistics.

The Committee on Monetary, Financial and Balance of Payments Statistics (CMFB) plays a key role in coordinating statistical policies between National Statistical Institutes and Eurostat, on the one hand, and National Central Banks and the European Central Bank, on the other. Its work involves representatives of the European Central Bank and Eurostat, as well as representatives of the national statistical institutes and central banks of the Member States of the European Union, EU candidate countries, and international financial organisations.
