The Deputy President of the NSI, Svilen Kolev, PhD took part in a series of expert meetings of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) in the field of macroeconomic and financial statistics, which were held in the period 24-28 November in Paris, France.
On 24 November, a meeting of the OECD Working Party on Financial Statistics (WPFS) was held, focussing on pressing topics such as the role of non-bank financial intermediation, sustainable finance, and analysing macro-economic financial trends. The meeting also included a dedicated session for the non-EU WPFS members on the implementation of the updated System of National Accounts (2025 SNA).
From 25 to 28 November, Svilen Kolev, PhD participated in the OECD Conference on National Economic and Financial Accounts (CNEFA), as well as in a meeting of the OECD Working Party on National Accounts. During both events, participants discussed challenges posed by globalisation, revising international statistical standards, measuring non-financial assets, and the use of artificial intelligence for statistical purposes. Updates on ongoing activities in the field of national accounts and macroeconomic trends were also presented, as well as an overview of the work on collecting Supply-Use tables (SUTs) and the issues around their coverage.
During his stay in Paris, the Deputy President of the NSI also took part in an in-person meeting of the Executive Body of the Committee on Monetary, Financial and Balance of Payment Statistics (CMFB), to which he has been elected as a member for the 2025-2025 mandate. The main role of the Committee is to coordinate statistical policies between the National Statistical Institutes and Eurostat, on the one hand, and National Central Banks and the European Central Bank, on the other. It convenes twice a year and its participants are representatives of the European Central Bank and Eurostat, as well as representatives of the Central Banks and National Statistical Institutes of EU member states.
