The National Statistical Institute celebrated the European Statistics Day – 20th of October, together with students and teachers from three vocational high schools. The event, related to the holiday, was aimed at increasing the interest of young people in statistics and to show them the significant role of official statistical information in understanding modern dynamic social processes.
More than 30 students and teachers from the National High School in Finance and Business, the National High School of Commerce and Banking and the National High School of Precision Engineering and Optics “M. V. Lomonosov” were acquainted with the activities of the NSI and the importance of the ability to recognize reliable information and dependable data.
In his welcoming remarks to the young guests, the President of the NSI, Assoc. Prof. Atanas Atanasov, PhD shared “Every number, percentage, every chart and every study that we carry out at the NSI tells a story – about how our society is developing, how our economy is changing and where the world is heading. I encourage you to be curious, to seek the truth beyond the headlines and to develop your critical thinking, for you are the future leaders, scientists and citizens who will shape tomorrow”.
On the occasion of European Statistics Day, the President of the NSI also drew the students’ attention to the tenth edition of the European Statistics Competition, organized by Eurostat in collaboration with the EU Member States.
