The NSI Hosted Statisticians from the Republic of Türkiye

The National Statistical Institute (NSI) hosted representatives from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TurkStat). The purpose of the study visit was to exchange experience and provide training in the field of energy statistics - final energy consumption in households, transport, and industry sectors, as well as physical energy flow accounts.

The delegation from TurkStat included representatives from Sectoral Statistics Department and Energy Statistics Unit, led by Erkan Erşen and Mustafa Yardimci.

On behalf of the NSI, the meeting was attended by Svilen Kolev, PhD, Deputy President, and experts from Environment and Energy Accounts Department, headed by Gergana Cheshmedjieva, PhD.

During the study visit, the production and reporting of data to Eurostat were discussed, in accordance with Regulation (EC) No 1099/2008 on energy statistics. Experts from both countries reviewed in detail the statistical process producing disaggregated data on final energy consumption in the aforementioned sectors, as well as the physical energy flow accounts. This included methodological explanations regarding data sources, questionnaire design strategies, questionnaires used for data collection from respondents, compilation of disaggregated data tables, dissemination of statistical information, and other related topics.

The study visit concluded with the shared understanding that it had been mutually beneficial and would contribute to improving the quality of the data produced by both institutions, which is necessary for meeting European requirements in the field of energy statistics.
