Over 50 experts from 24 countries and eight international organizations participated in a meeting of Eurostat’s Expert Group on Integrated Global Accounts (IGA EG), which took place in Sofia on 18 and 19 March 2026, hosted by the National Statistical Institute.
The meeting was opened by the Deputy President of the NSI - Svilen Kolev, PhD, who highlighted the excellent cooperation of Eurostat with the national statistical offices of the EU Member States and wished the Group fruitful work.
The discussions and presentations in the two-day work programme in Sofia focused on the preparation of the FIGARO 2026 edition at current prices, the synergies between Eurostat/JRC and OECD in the construction of a balanced view of international trade in goods, the 2025 round of transmission and validation for SUIOT data and metadata, as well as the revision of the ESA transmission programme.
A special session was dedicated to the national and European space economy thematic accounts with presentations from DG DEFIS, the European Space Agency, the Italian Statistical Office (ISTAT), the Spanish National Statistical Institute (INE), and the JRC and Eurostat.
The IGA EG is a specialized body working within the framework of Eurostat, tasked with addressing complex macroeconomic statistics, particularly regarding global accounts. Its work focuses on the compilation of high-quality national and regional accounts, the implementation of ESA 2010 (European System of Accounts), and the development of thematic accounts (e.g., Space Economy).
To improve data harmonisation, the Group works with various partners, including the OECD, the US Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA), and EU national statistical authorities.
