The President of the National Statistical Institute, Assoc. Prof. Atanas Atanasov, PhD took part in high-level events of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) held in Paris. He participated in a meeting of the Bureau of the OECD Committee of Statistics and Statistical Policy, and in the 23rd meeting of the Committee on Statistics and Statistical Policy (CSSP).
During the 23rd meeting of the CSSP, representatives of member countries discussed current challenges and emerging trends in the development of official statistics. Among the main topics were the modernization of data sources and statistical methods, strengthening trust in official statistics, addressing the declining response rates in household and social surveys, and developing internationally comparable statistics on sustainable finance.
Assoc. Prof. Atanasov was elected as a member of the Bureau of the OECD Committee of Statistics and Statistical Policy at the end of last year for the 2026 mandate, alongside the heads of the national statistical offices of Norway, the Netherlands, Australia, Canada, Estonia, Mexico, and Eurostat. Following the election procedure, and in accordance with the OECD Rules of Procedure, Assoc. Prof. Atanasov became the first member of the Bureau representing a country that is a candidate for OECD membership.
