Special thanks to the National Statistical Institute for coordinating the Black Sea Economic Cooperation for the Exchange of Statistical Data over the past two years

On November 23, 2023, Svilen Kolev, PhD, Deputy President of the NSI took part in a meeting of the Working Group on Exchange of Statistical Data and Economic Information of the Organization of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation (BSEC), which was held in virtual format.

The organizers of the meetings from the Permanent International Secretariat of BSEC expressed special gratitude to the NSI team, which breathed new energy and coordinated the work of the Working Group on Exchange of Statistical Data and Economic Information after a 23-year standstill.

“The regional cooperation is very important for the National Statistical Institute of the Republic of Bulgaria and we were honoured to coordinate the work of the Working Group for 2 years. The exchange of reliable and timely statistical information will help achieve the BSEC Economic Agenda goals and will contribute to ensuring sustainable development in the Black Sea region. That is why we consider that the cooperation within the Working Group on Exchange of Statistical Data and Economic Information is very important.”, said Svilen Kolev, PhD during the meeting.

Experts from the Statistical Institute of the Republic of Turkey, as representatives of the country that holds the current rotating Presidency of BSEC during 2023, informed the participants on the progress in preparing a common publication with basic economic and social indicators for the countries of the Black Sea region. The representatives of the national statistical institutes of the BSEC member states discussed technical aspect, related to the collection of information for the publication, the periodicity of data update and etc. The last such edition was published in 2003. The new edition is expected to be published early next year after receiving approval from BSEC’s Council of Ministers of Foreign Affairs.
