The National Round of the first European Statistics Competition for students is over

A total of 527 students from Bulgaria, distributed in 194 teams, declared their desire to participate in the first European Statistics Competition.

The competition for Bulgaria took place in two stages, and the students were distributed into two categories - Category A: students from X - XII grade and Category B: students from VIII - IX grade. In the first stage, the students had to work on a test, and in the second, each team had to analyse statistical data in the form of a presentation.

94 teams from Category A and 34 teams from Category B successfully completed the first stage of the national round.

In the second stage presentations were made by 73 teams from Category A and 25 teams from Category B.

The teams ranked in the first three places in Category A were:
1. IntelYRF - State Finance and Trade High School, Pleven - 96.3 points
2. FermiDirak - Vocational School of Economics and Management, Pazardzhik - 95.1 points
3. Dezli - National High School of Mathematics and Natural Sciences ‘Acad. L. Chakalov’, Sofia - 94.8 points.
 
Winners in Category B were the teams:
1. OMEGA - Vocational School of Economics and Management, Pazardzhik - 96.6 points
2. Electro - Vocational High School of Electrical Engineering and Electronics ‘M. V. Lomonosov’, Gorna Oryahovitsa - 90.9 points
3. EPSILON - Vocational High School of Economics and Management, Pazardzhik - 88.4 points.

The six winning teams from Bulgaria will compete in the European round of the Statistics Competition.

Their task will be by May 4th to prepare a two-minute video-clip in which to respond to the question, ‘Why official statistics are important to our society?’

The winners of the European round of the Statistics Competition will be announced on May 23, 2018 and will be awarded on 27 and 28 June at the European Conference on Quality of Official Statistics 2018 in Krakow, Poland.
