Trips of Bulgarian residents abroad and arrivals of visitors from abroad to Bulgaria - March 2026 - final data

In March 2026, the number of trips of Bulgarian residents abroad was 724.6 thousand (Annex, Table 1), or 2.0% less than the registered in March 2025. A decrease by 5.4% was registered in the trips with other purposes, while those with professional purposes and with holiday and recreation purposes increased by 3.1% and 0.5%, respectively.

Most trips of Bulgarian residents were made to: Türkiye - 205.6 thousand, Greece - 138.0 thousand, Romania - 84.1 thousand, Serbia - 50.1 thousand, Germany - 35.5 thousand, Republic of North Macedonia - 29.9 thousand, Austria - 26.6 thousand, Italy - 22.8 thousand, France - 17.6 thousand, Spain - 17.1 thousand.

The trips with other purposes formed the greatest share of the total number of trips of Bulgarian residents abroad - 48.2%, followed by those with holiday and recreation purposes - 33.3%, and with professional purposes - 18.5%.

In March 2026, the number of visits of non-residents to Bulgaria was 789.3 thousand (Annex, Table 2), or 2.8% more in comparison with the same month of the previous year. An increase by 8.0% was registered in the trips with professional purposes and by 5.0% - with holiday and recreation purposes, while those with other purposes decreased by 0.1%. Transit passes through the country were 31.5% (248.2 thousand) of all visits of non-residents to Bulgaria.

The share of visits of ЕU citizens was 57.1% of the total number of non-residents‘ visits to Bulgaria and reached 450.4 thousand, the largest being by visitors from Romania - 36.9%, and Greece - 30.8%.

The visits of non-residents in the group ‘Other European countries’[1] were 299.5 thousand, or 38.0% of all visits to Bulgaria. The highest registered number of visits was from Türkiye - 177.6 thousand, or 59.3% in this group.

Most visits to Bulgaria were from: Türkiye - 177.6 thousand, Romania - 166.1 thousand, Greece - 138.9 thousand, Serbia - 48.6 thousand, Germany - 33.3 thousand, Republic of North Macedonia - 29.4 thousand, Ukraine - 23.5 thousand, Italy - 19.8 thousand, Poland - 16.0 thousand, the United Kingdom - 15.0 thousand.

The predominant share of the visits was with other purposes - 48.8%, followed by trips with holiday and recreation purposes - 37.3%, and with professional purposes - 13.9%.
