In 2024, there were 2 918 high-growth enterprises1. The largest number of these enterprises operated in Section G 'Wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles' - 548, while the smallest number was recorded in Section B 'Mining and quarrying' - 4.
The distribution of high-growth enterprises by economic activity (Figure 1) shows that more than half of them were concentrated in the following three sections: Section G 'Wholesale and retail trade; repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles', Section C 'Manufacturing', and Section I 'Accommodation and food service activities'.
1 High-growth enterprises - enterprises that have had at least 10 employees at the beginning of a 3-year period and an annual growth in the number of employees above 10% during that period.
The total number of employees2 in these enterprises was 215 424. The highest share of employees was recorded in Section C 'Manufacturing' - 18.6%, while the lowest share was recorded in Section B 'Mining and quarrying' - less than 0.1%.
2 Employees - in the context of structural business statistics, employees are those who work for an employer on the basis of an employment contract and receive compensation in the form of wages, salaries, fees or remuneration in kind.

High-growth enterprises play a key role in creating jobs, fostering innovation, and driving economic growth in the European Union. Statistics on high-growth enterprises support the development and monitoring of a wide range of European policies.
Regulation (EU) 2019/2152 of European parliament and of the council of 27 November 2019 on European business statistics and Implementing Regulation No. 2020/1197 of the EC establishes the common framework for collection, coverage, production, provision and evaluation of harmonized statistics for all areas of business statistics, including the demography of EU enterprises.
The scope of the survey covers NACE Rev. 2 sections B 'Mining and quarrying' to N 'Administrative and support service activities' and sections P 'Education' to S 'Other service activities', excluding division 94 'Activities of membership organizations'.
