The President of the National Statistical Institute Sergey Tsvetarsky will participate in the 32nd meeting of the European Statistical System Committee (ESSC), to be held on 9 February 2017 at Eurostat, Luxembourg. This will be the first Committee meeting for this year out of the four regular annual ESSC meetings.

The Committee will discuss and vote on the following two legislative proposals of the European Commission:

  • proposal for a Regulation amending Regulation (EC) No. 1099/2008 of the European Parliament and of the Council on energy statistics, as regards the implementation of updates for annual and monthly energy statistics;

  • proposal for an Implementing Regulation implementing Regulation (EC) No 763/2008 of the European Parliament and of the Council on population and housing censuses, as regards the modalities and structure of the quality reports and the technical format for data transmission, and amending Regulation (EU) No. 1151/2010.

The Committee will also give its opinion on two progress reports on the implementation of Vision 2020 of the European Statistical System (ESS Vision 2020) and is expected to adopt the first series of non-legislative normative documents to be recognised as ESS standards.

Right after the ESSC meeting a seminar on globalisation will take place, as well as a coordination meeting of the Trio Presidencies of the Council of the European Union for the period from July 2017 to December 2018 Estonia-Bulgaria-Austria, at which representatives of the National Statistical Institutes of the three countries will discuss the common programme in the field of statistics.
