The statistical information on the activities of the General Government institutional sector, including debt, deficit and surplus, is elaborated according to the harmonized EU methodology[1]. In the implementation of Council Regulation (EC) No. 479/2009 on the application of the Protocol on the excessive deficit procedure annexed to the Treaty establishing the European Community, each member state provides to Eurostat (the European Commission) preliminary data on deficit/surplus and debt for the reporting year as of March 31st of the next year and the final data as of September 30th of the next year.
[1] The harmonized EU methodology is defined in the Manual of Government Deficit and Debt on the General Government Sector and the European System of National Accounts (ESA 2010) of Eurostat.
*At the time of the current press release, BNSI has requested but not yet received a copy of the audit report of the Bulgarian National Audit Office regarding an extraordinary audit of road infrastructure projects in the public sector as assigned by a decision of the National Assembly of Bulgaria. Depending on the findings of that report and after a following analysis, verification and validation by Eurostat, data on deficit and debt for the General Government sector and the Central Government sub-sector could be revised.
