In the period 13-14 May 2019 the National Statistical Institute hosted a study visit in the field of Agro-Monetary Statistics within the framework of the Instrument for Pre-Accession Assistance IPA 2015 in cooperation with the German GOPA Consultants. Experts from the Statistical Offices of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Serbia, Turkey and Montenegro participated in the study visit.

Freedom of speech and press is a basic human right and one of the principles on which every democratic society is built.

The day is celebrated all over the world, with numerous events appealing for free access to information, media independence and the protection of journalists in the course of their profession.

On 19.04.2019 the National Statistical Institute signed the Grant Agreement ESSnet Big Data II: “Multipurpose Statistics and efficiency gains in production”. Due to the importance of the project and the complexity of the project tasks the work on the project started as early as November 2018.

The project, funded by the EC, has a duration of 26 months and it is a continuation of the project ESSnet - Big Data I.

A cross-border meeting between representatives of the National Statistical Institute of the Republic of Bulgaria (NSI) and the State Statistical Office of Greece (ELSTAT) was held for the first time during the period 22-23 April 2019. The first day of the meeting was held in the town of Kardjali and the second day - in Xanthi. The meeting was attended by the Presidents of the Statistical offices of Bulgaria and Greece - Mr. Sergey Tsvetarski and Mr. Atanasios Tanopoulos. Earth Day was first celebrated on April 22, 1970 in the United States of America and Canada. In 1990 it was declared an international day and in Bulgaria it has been celebrated since 1993. The goal is people around the world to unite in protection of nature and the environment.

Each year, the International Earth Day Network has its focus on a topical theme related to the protection of the planet. Every living creature has a unique value and plays an important role in the complex network of life. The motto of the campaign this year is "Protect our species".

April 16th is the Constitution Day and a professional celebration of jurists in Bulgaria. On this date, in 1879 was adopted the Tarnovo Constitution - the first Bulgarian constitution, which becomes the legislative basis for the socio-economic development of the newly-liberated state.

At the initiative of the Union of Jurists in Bulgaria this day has been celebrated since 1991.

The Bulgarian statisticians will support their colleagues from the Republic of North Macedonia in the implementation of European standards and best practices.

The EU funded project ‘Improving the Production and Dissemination of Statistics’ started officially today on March, 29 2019, with Launch event at the EU InfoCentre in Skopje, the Republic of North Macedonia. 

The project aims to improve the quality and availability of statistical data in the Republic of North Macedonia and enhance their use in development and coordination of public policies.

From the beginning of April 2019 the National Statistical Institute starts a Household Budget Survey in newly selected households.

The survey is annual and it is included in the National Statistical Programme 2019. In the survey take part 3 060 randomly chosen households divided in three sub-samples each containing 1 020 households. During the April - June period households from each sub-sample are consistently included in the Household Budget Survey. Each household participates in the survey four months during the 12-month period of the method of rotation sample.
