In the fourth quarter of 2019, 1 302.5 thousand Bulgarian residents made tourist trips. The majority (81.1%) of them travelled only within the country, 17.1% - only abroad and 1.8% - both in the country and abroad. Compared to the same quarter of 2018 the total number of the travelled persons aged 15 and over increased by 18.9%.

Data description | Tourism Satellite Accounts is an internationally accepted statistical system description, classification and analysis of tourism expenditure. Application of this statistical system is designed to estimate all expenditure related tourist trips, made before, during and after the trips. In accordance with the methodology of Tourism Satellite Accounts includes the following expenditure at current prices for tourist trips: · expenditure of the residents in the country; · expenditure of the non-residents in the country; · expenditure of the residents abroad. |

In December 2019, 2 024 accommodation establishments - hotels, motels, camping sites, mountain chalets and other establishments for short-term accommodation with more than 10 bed-places were functioned in the country. The total number of the rooms in them was 58.6 thousand and the bed-places were 119.6 thousand. In comparison with December 2018, the total number of accommodation establishments (functioned during the period) increased by 1.4%, while the bed-places in them decreased by 0.2%.
The total number of the nights spent in all accommodation establishments registered in December 2019 was 905.2 thousand, or by 7.2% more in comparison with the same month of the previous year.
The total revenues from nights spent in December 2019 reached 52.3 million BGN or by 8.1% more compared to December 2018.

The trips with other purposes (as a guest, education and visit the cultural and sport events) in December 2019 composed the greatest share of the total number of trips of Bulgarian residents abroad - 48.1%, followed by those with holiday and recreation purposes - 28.5%, and with professional purpose - 23.4%.
In December 2019, the number of arrivals of visitors from abroad to Bulgaria was 673.4 thousand or by 8.6% more in comparison with December 2018. In December 2019, the predominant share of the visits with other purposes was 46.9%, followed by trips with holiday and recreation purpose - 34.9%, and with professional purpose - 18.2%.

The total number of the rooms in them was 53.7 thousand and the bed-places were 108.7 thousand. In comparison with November 2018, the total number of accommodation establishments (functioned during the period) decreased by 0.3%, and the bed-places in them - by 1.0%.
The total number of the nights spent in all accommodation establishments registered in November 2019 was 762.9 thousand, or by 11.4% more in comparison with the same month of the previous year.
The total revenues from nights spent in November 2019 reached 42.8 million BGN or by 12.0% more compared to November 2018.

The total number of the rooms in them was 68.4 thousand and the bed-places were 142.7 thousand. In comparison with October 2018, the total number of accommodation establishments (functioned during the period) decreased by 2.5%, and the bed-places in them - by 6.4%.
The total number of the nights spent in all accommodation establishments registered in October 2019 was 910.4 thousand, or by 0.2% more in comparison with the same month of the previous year.
The total revenues from nights spent in October 2019 reached 51.9 million BGN or by 4.0% more compared to October 2018.

The total revenues from nights spent in September 2019 reached 166.7 million BGN or by 1.5% more compared to September 2018.

Bulgaria 2009 - Statistical Panorama
The National Statistical Institute annual publication Bulgaria 2009 - Statistical Panorama (in Bulgarian and summary in English) is available to users of statistical information.
