On 19 January 2009 the Director General of Eurostat – Mr. Walter Radermacher visited the library of National Statistical Institute. Mr. Radermacher took an interest in electronic library. He gave great expression to digital database of Bulgarian National Statistics since 1881.
The library experts presented to Mr. Radermacher the complete technology of building up, conversion and dissemination of digital information resources.
On December 10, 1897the Library of Bulgarian Statistics was set up with the law on the Statistics Directorate of Bulgarian Principality (Decree of Prince Ferdinand the I st).
The necessity of preservation of the statistical information is a fact up to now proving the historical role and contemporary mission of the statistical library.
The library was renovated and modernized with the financial support of EU under the project “Sustainable Development of the National Statistical System”. The library has been equipped with appropriate software, hardware and furniture.
At present the library possesses a database with 500 000 digital pages of Bulgarian national statistics since 1881. Collections of rare and true merit editions ware scanned and preserved for the future generations.
