Energy and Transport Department has a leading role in preparing, planning and projecting of specific statistical surveys in energy and transport areas, as well as for the state and development of infrastructure in these important economy sectors.

Functions:

• Organizational, executive and control functions within the framework of national statistical system.

• Participates in coordinating and updating of legislation in the field of energy and transport in accordance with the requirements of international standards and regulations.

• Develops statistical methodology and statistical tools in accordance with the legislation of the European Union.

• Supports cooperation with administrative sources aiming to provide additional statistical information demanded by both Bulgarian and international institutions and users.

• Provides methodological support and assistance to other authorities of Statistics, conducting statistical surveys in the field of energy and transport, under regulations providing harmonized data at European level.

• Provides methodological assistance to the Regional statistical offices in primary data processing.

• Organizes and conducts surveys for:

– Production, import, export and deliveries of energy products;

– Electricity and natural gas prices for industry and households;

– Material balance sheets for main groups of raw materials and energy products;

– Combined Heat and Power units;

– Overall energy balance of the country;

– Cost of acquisition and maintenance of tangible and intangible fixed assets for renewable energy sources (RES);

– Transported passengers and transport performance by railway, bus and urban electrical transport;

– Goods carried and transport performance by road freight, railway, maritime and inland waterway transport;

– Goods carried and transport performance by pipeline transport.

• Provides confidentiality protection of primary data collected during the conducting of statistical surveys.

• Take due measures for improving the quality of statistical information.

• Submits results from the energy and transport statistical surveys for publication in the corresponding sections of NSI web page, as well as in the respective sections of statistical publications.

• Submits information by completing particular questionnaires to Eurostat, national and international institutions.

• Prepares statistical publications and provides information upon users’ request.

• Participates in Eurostat and other institutions and organizations working groups on energy and transport issues.
