Functions of Demographic and Social Statistics Directorate
• elaborate new and improves the existing methodologies and methods for conduction of statistical surveys in the field of demographic statistics, social statistics, environmental statistics and information society, as well as ensures their consistency with the Eurostat requirements;
• conduct statistical surveys included into the National Statistical Program concerning population and demographic processes, economic status of households and living conditions, health, education, culture, justice and information society, including on the basis of administrative sources;
• provide methodological help and assistance to the other statistical and government bodies, maintaining administrative registers used for statistical purposes in the field of population and demographic processes, economic status of households and living conditions, health, education, culture, justice and information society;
• elaborate the methodology and provides the preparation, organization and conduct the census of the population and housing in accordance to the Bulgarian legislation and international recommendations;
• realize the international exchange of statistical information with Eurostat and the statistical units of international organizations in the field of population and demographic processes, economic status of households and living conditions, health, education, culture ,justice and information society;
• prepare statistical data and information that is to be released in the field of population and demographic processes, economic status of households and living conditions, health, education, culture, justice and information society;
• create, maintain and improve data bases necessary for the national plans and ensure their connection with the international plans;
• realize the coordination of gathering of regional information from the NSI and RSOs departments;
