The Labour Force Survey is the largest regular household sample survey carried out in Bulgaria. It provides information on economic activity of the population - employment and unemployment, according to the internationally adopted concepts and definitions. Some of the most important indicators of socio-economic development of the country, as activity rate, employment rate and unemployment rate are calculated on the base of the Labour Force Survey. The information is used by wide range of users - the Government, trade unions, business circles, research institutes, many international organizations and ordinary people, Because of the interest in the Labour force survey, as well to motivate the households, selected to participate in the survey the National Statistical Institute has prepared the brochure 'Labou Force Survey'.
This leaflet describes in a popular way the methodology of the Labour Force Survey - sample selection and method of data collection, the main definitions used in the survey, calculation of indicators and data dissemination.
