The National Statistical Institute informs users of statistical information that the annual bilingual (Bulgarian-English) publication Environment 2007 (printed and electronic version on CD-ROM) is already available. The publication contains environmental data from NSI statistical surveys in 2007. The main indicators are presented for the 2003 - 2007 period.
The information is systematized in the following sections:
• Emissions in the air;
• Water abstraction, water supply, water use, waste waters, sewage treatment plants;
• Waste;
• Expenditure on acquisition and maintenance of tangible fixed assets with ecological use;
• Tangible fixed assets with ecological use;
• Noise;
• Protected natural scenery;
• Crimes completed against environment with proceedings finished and persons convicted.
Data are aggregated by economical activity and regional level. According to the Classification of Territorial Units for Statistics in Bulgaria the territory of the country is divided into two statistical zones ‘North and South-East Bulgaria’ and ‘South-West and South Central Bulgaria’ that correspond to level NUTS1 from the EUROSTAT Classification NUTS. They are aggregations from the 6 statistical regions that correspond to the level NUTS2 from NUTS classification. The names of statistical regions are identical to the names of the previously existing planning regions but they have a different composition. The statistical regions, on their side, are aggregations from the 28 districts that correspond to the level NUTS3 from the NUTS classification. Information is presented in tables, graphs and thematic maps.
The publication is of interest to the public, the Government, ecologists and economists.
