The President of BNSI Assoc. Prof. Mariana Kotzeva took part in a seminar entitled “The European Statistics Code of Practice and the Enhancement of Credibility of Official Statistics”, held on 27 June 2011 in Athens, Greece.

The seminar was organized jointly by Eurostat, the Helenic Statistical Authority and the National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies of France (INSEE). It was attended by experts in the field of economics and statistics, as well as politicians. During the event, a special emphasis was put on institutional aspects and quality of legislation, as well as the government and top management implication in improving the quality of official statistics. Papers on ethical principles in official statistics and the role of national statistical institutes as independent bodies that promote and protect the production and dissemination of official statistics were presented to the attention of the participants.
