22.10.2010

For the first time we celebrate the World Statistics Day
On 20th October 2010, the World Statistics Day, in the library of the National Statistical Institute an exhibition entitled “NSI – part of the world statistics family” was opened. The exhibits are valuable and rare statistical publications, some of which are shown for the first time.
Highlights in the exhibition are the first statistical publications of many international organizations and statistical offices abroad. Publications from the Royal Statistical Society, the American Statistical Association, statistical yearbooks of countries from different continents, as well as handmade atlases and maps are presented.

This exhibition is another proof that Bulgarian statistics has always been an integral part of the official statistics in global.

The exhibition will be open to visitors until the end of October 2010, still on the first day of its opening it provoked great interest and was attended by officials of the NSI, pupils and students who came to the NSI on the occasion.

Meanwhile at the Head Office of the NSI and the 28 Regional Statistical Offices press conferences on major topics: upcoming tasks for the NSI, what we need to know about the work of statistics, the NSI and its place in the European and Global statistical family.

At the press conference in Sofia, the President of NSI – Assoc. Prof. Mariana Kotzeva stressed out that this is a celebration for all because one part of the people are statisticians, another part are subjects of statistical surveys, and a third one are users of the information produced by statistics. She told the journalist about the operating principles and development priorities of European and Global statistics, the cooperation of national statistics and the upcoming census in global. This year the number is 106 countries, and next year – another 117.

Finka Denkova – acting director of “Demographic and Social Statistics” Department presented results from the pilot census in 2010 and answered the questions asked by journalists.

The press conference ended with the wish each year on this day to report ever greater professional successes and increasing in the public recognition of the statistical profession.
