On 27th June 2010 students who are living and studying abroad visited the National Statistical Institute. The visit was organized at the initiative of the Agency for Bulgarians Abroad.
Students who study in different universities in the US, Britain, Austria, Belgium and elsewhere, got acquainted with the Digital Library and expressed their satisfaction with the fact that they will be able to use Bulgarian statistical publications from different parts of the world.
The conversation held with Mr. Ivan Balev, the director of the “Demographic and Social Statistics” Department caused great interest. He spoke on the 130-year history of Bulgarian statistics, the demographic situation in the country, the forthcoming census in 2011 and also on the news and challenges connected with it.
The students asked questions mainly about the migration of population, the demographic prognoses and Bulgaria’s place in the world.
The meeting lasted more than two hours with a lot of questions and answers. The students were willing to spend their summer internship next year in the NSI.
