Data on number of establishments and places in crеches, personnel, and number of children as well as their distribution by age are collected. Creches are set up to support families in raising children up to the age of three years and to ensure their normal physical and mental development. Groups for children could be opened at daily and weekly kindergartens as the organization of work there does not differ from the work of detached creches.

All crеches and groups in kindergartens are covered.
|Statistical concepts and definitions|
Crеches are organizationally separate structures, in which medical and other specialists raise, educate and train children aged from three months to three years. The coverage of children grown in crеches is expressed by ratio of the number of children aged up to 3 years attending separate crеches and nursery groups at kindergartens per 100 of children of the same age group of the total population.

For the territory of the Republic of Bulgaria. Аt statistical processing data about crеches are distributed regionally according to administrative territorial division of the country (municipalities, districts, statistical regions).

Individual data is not published in conformity with Art. 25 of the Law on Statistics. The publishing of individual data can be performed only in accordance with Art. 26 of the same law.
The date for publication of statistical information is listed in the Release Calendar presenting the results of the statistical surveys carried out by the National Statistical Institute.

Data on crеches is published on the NSI website, section Health in accordance with the Law on Statistics and the European Statistics Code of Practice respecting the professional independence and aiming at objectivity, transparency and equal treatment of all consumers.

Via the annually completed questionnaires survey data are provided to UNICEF and other international organizations.
At national and regional level the main users of the data are the National Assembly, the authorities of the central executive and local power, the State Agency for Child Protection. Annually data are also provided to the Ministry of Health and its territorial divisions - Regional health inspectorates and the National Center for Public Health and Analyses, as they are responsible for policy making in health at national and regional level.
Upon requests for specific data, the data is available to research institutes, universities, NGOs and others.
