Meeting of the National Statistical Council

At its first meeting for 2015, held on June 12, 2015, the National Statistical Council (NSC) considered four main objectives of the new law on European statistics, which modifies the Regulation (EC) № 223/2009, namely:

• Strengthening the professional independence;

• Clarification of the coordinating role of the NSI;

• Enhancing the implementation of the European Statistics Code of Practice;

• Improving access to administrative data and their usage.

In the course of lively discussion concrete proposals were made on amendments to the Law on Statistics relating to the provision of professional independence of NSIs and to clarify the statute and activities of the Bodies of statistics within the National Statistical System.

The Action Plan developed by NSI in order to implement the recommendations of Peer Review for Bulgaria held in October 2014 was presented at the meeting. The plan was approved with proposal for periodically acquaintance on the part of NSC with its implementation.

Representative of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food outlined the main activities within 2015 LUCAS project.
