Meeting of the European Statistical System Committee

The 24th meeting of the European Statistical System Committee (ESSC) will be held on 12 February 2015 in Luxembourg and it will be the first ESSC meeting for the year out of total of four regular meetings of the Committee. It is chaired by Eurostat and attended by the Heads of National Statistical Institutes of the EU Member States and representatives of ECB, OECD and EFTA countries. Mr. Sergey Tsvetarsky, President of the National Statistical Institute, will participate in the event on behalf of Bulgaria.

A progress report containing the findings and recommendations of the ESS peer reviews of Eurostat on the implementation of the European Statistics Code of Practice will be presented during the meeting, as well as the draft agenda of the 46th session of the UN Statistical Commission (UNSC), the reports from the Directors’ Groups to Eurostat, the report on the last meeting and the draft agenda for the next meeting of the Partnership Group, the report from the Presidency (Latvia).

ESSC members will provide their opinion on a number of strategic issues related to the implementation of the ESS Vision 2020, the revised Mandate of the Resource Directors’ Group, the possibilities of preventing contestations of statistical conclusions.

The ‘Comitology’ part of the agenda includes only one act concerning the specifications of the 2016 ad hoc module on young people on the labour market provided for by Council Regulation (EC) No 577/98.                                                  

The ESSC will be invited to discuss the implications of the revised Regulation (EC) No 223/2009 on European statistics, both at national and European level.

On February 11, 2015, one day before the meeting of the ESSC, will be held a strategic seminar on the ESS Vision 2020 in the format Directors-General of NSIs plus the nine members of the Vision Implementation Group (VIG) elected by the ESSC. The Chamber of Commerce of Luxembourg will host the event.
