European Statistical System Committee meets on 13 November 2014

On 13 November 2014 in Eurostat, Luxembourg, the 23rd meeting of the European Statistical System Committee (ESSC) will be held. This is the fourth and the last ESSC meeting for the year. It is chaired by Eurostat and attended by the Heads of National Statistical Institutes of the EU Member States and representatives of ECB, OECD and EFTA countries. Mr. Sergey Tsvetarsky, President of the National Statistical Institute, will participate in the event on behalf of Bulgaria.

In the “comitology” part of the agenda there is only one act concerning short-term statistics as regards the establishment of European sample schemes.

ESSC members will provide their opinion on a number of strategic issues related to the implementation of the ESS Vision 2020: the ESS Vision Implementation Portfolio, the mandate and rules of procedure of the future Vision Implementation Group (VIG), and progress reports on SIMSTAT, ESBRs and Validation projects. The updated mandates of the Directors’ Groups, the strategic priorities for the 2016 Annual Work Programme, the appointment of the members of the European Master in Official Statistics (EMOS) Board, as well as the modernisation of social statistics are also part of the agenda items for opinion.

The sixth annual report of the European Statistical Governance Advisory Board (ESGAB) - Annual Report 2014, containing the outcomes and recommendations on the peer review of Eurostat conducted by ESGAB will be presented during the meeting.

The Director-General of DG TRADE, Mr. Demarty, will make a presentation on the priorities of the EU trade policy.
