| Investment Activity in Industry, March 2010 |

The investment business inquiry of NSI carried out among industrial enterprises in the second half of March 2010 gives information about the investments made by those enterprises in 2009 and their investments plans for 2010.
In 2009 the expenditures for acquiring fixed tangible and intangible assets in industry have decreased by 34.3% in nominal terms as compared to the previous year. |

According to the final data, 1 334.3 thousand Bulgarian residents travelled in the country or abroad in 2009.
In 2009, the average expenditure per person of 15 years and over travelled domestic and outbound with private
purpose were 189.2 BGN and 834.7 BGN respectively.

The preliminary data showed that the Industrial Production Index decreased by 9.1% in February 2010 as compared to February 2009, as compared to the previous month the production decreased by 2.9%. Industrial Turnover Index decreased by 5.1% compared to February 2009, as compared to the previous month the turnover increased by 1.3%.

According to the preliminary data of the National Statistical Institute, the construction production in February 2010 decreased by 30.0% compared to the same month of the previous year. The significant influence on the total Construction Production Index had the production of the building construction, which dropped by 36.6%.

The production of solid fuels in January 2010 compared to December 2009 increases by 6.2%, unleaded motor gasoline - by 3.3% and electricity - by 6.4%. Decrease is observed for the production of transport diesel - by 4.7%. There is no change in the production of Liquefied Petroleum Gases (LPG) and natural gas.
The deliveries of solid fuels in January 2010 compared to December 2009 increase by 2.8%, natural gas - by 14.5% and electricity - by 7.5%. Decrease is observed for the deliveries of LPG - by 8.3%, unleaded motor gasoline - by 2% and transport diesel - by 15.7%.

Producer Price Index on Domestic Market in February 2010 fell by 0.2% compared to the previous month, while compared to the same month of 2009 the domestic prices increased by 2.5%. Total Producer Price Index in Industry remained at the same level over the previous month; compared to the same month of 2009 the prices increased by 4.1%.

In March 2010 the NSI business surveys register a decrease in the level of the total business climate indicator of 0.9 percentage points in comparison with February. The indicator decreases in all of the sectors with the exception of the service sector, as the highest drop is recorded in retail trade.

According to the preliminary data of the National Statistical Institute, in the fourth quarter of 2009 the newly built residential buildings were 962 compared to the previous quarter of 2009 and registered a significant increase of 40.4%, as newly build dwellings in them was with 1 190 more and their number reached 6 404.

In the fourth quarter of 2009, the average expenditure per person of 15 years and over travelled domestic and outbound with private purpose were 143.5 BGN and 1095.0 BGN respectively.

Decrease is observed for the production of solid fuels - by 15.1% and unleaded motor gasoline - by 16.4%. The deliveries of transport diesel in December 2009 compared to November 2009 increase by 31.9%, natural gas - by 23.4% and electricity - by 1.3%. Decrease is observed for the deliveries of solid fuels - by 11.7%, LPG - by 4% and unleaded motor gasoline - by 41%.

According to preliminary data during the fourth quarter of 2009 in comparison with the correspondence period in 2008 is observed drop at goods carriages in transport as all. The goods carried decreased by 23.2% and the transport performance in tonnekilometres by 35.1%. But over the previous quarter of 2009 a decrease is registered only for the goods carried - by 15.9%, while the transport performance increased by 6.9%.
During the fourth quarter of 2009 transported passengers are with 8.6% more than the passengers in the third quarter of the same year, but with 5.3% less then transported passengers during the corresponding period in previous year. Performance in passengerkilometres decreased over last three months, as well in comparison with corresponding fourth quarter of 2008, respectively by 7.6 and 19.2%. |

In 2009, there were 3 533 accommodation establishments - hotels, motels, camping sites, mountain chalets and other establishments for short-term accommodation with more than 10 bed places. The total number of the nights spent in 2009 in all accommodation establishments fell by 2923.0 thousand (16.0%) as compared to 2008, to 15 372.4 thousand.

According to the preliminary data of the National Statistical Institute (NSI) the number of employees under labour contract at the end of December 2009 decreased by 3.6% as compared to the end of September 2009 and reached to 2.25 millions.
In fourth quarter of 2009 in comparison with the third quarter of 2009 the average monthly wages and salaries increased by 3.9% getting 606 levs.

The deliveries of unleaded motor gasoline in November 2009 compared to October 2009 increase by 7.8%, transport diesel - by 8.0%, natural gas - by 37.9% and electricity - by 22.5%. Decrease is observed for the deliveries of solid fuels - by 9.3% and LPG - by 3.8%.

Data on ICT usage in enterprises survey show the widely use of Internet by the business. The growth rate observed for the period 2004 - 2009 is 22.1 percentage points and in 2009 reaches 83.9%. Broadband penetration is increasing faster during the last 6 years (41.2%) and 69.6% of the enterprises have broadband connection to the Internet during 2009.

The number of the new dwellings in them decreased by 674 compared to the previous quarter of 2009 and reached a number of 5 214.

During the third quarter of 2009 according to preliminary data in comparison with April-June period is observed growth at goods carriages in transport as all. The goods carried increased by 18.7%, and performance in tonnekilometres increased only by 2.7%. But over the corresponding period of 2008 is registered dip by 7.7% for carried goods and 17.7% for performance.
During the third quarter of 2009 transported passengers are with 4.5% less than the passengers in the second quarter of the same year and with 6.8% less then transported passengers during the corresponding period at last year. Performance in passengerkilometres increased with 4.5% over last three months, but in comparison with corresponding third quarter at last year performance notes dip by 16.8%.
